We Care, We can holiday fundraiser

This Holiday season, We are faced with an urgent need.

Clarington is one of Ontario's fastest-growing communities, and with this growth comes an increasing demand for advanced healthcare. Our dedicated medical teams urgently need updated equipment to provide the best care.

Through the We Care, We Can Campaign, we aim to address this challenge and ensure every patient receives exceptional care. This year, we are raising funds to replace critical diagnostic tools: an X-ray system and an echocardiac ultrasound machine.

Together, we can make a lasting impact. Your generosity will help us meet this urgent need and support our community’s health for years to come.

X-Ray System Replacement

X-Ray is a critical and frequently used diagnostic imaging modality that is used to assess a wide range of conditions.

  • Especially important for time sensitive assessments presenting in the Emergency Department

Current X-Ray equipment at the Bowmanville Hospital is over 20 years old and well past its expected useful life

  • Vendor maintenance service contracts are challenging given age, lack of replacement parts and frequency of downtime service calls

Echocardiac Ultrasound Replacement

The Diagnostic Imaging team identified the replacement of aging Echocardiac Ultrasound units (Echo) as one of its highest risks of failure and priorities.

  • Echo diagnostics is a critical component of assessing patient’s cardiac issues both in Emergency Department and In-Patient care areas.
  • The existing Echo units are well past expected life and are failing and do not provide image quality required for accurate assessment.

A letter from our CEO

Dear Community Member,

As the holiday season draws near, I am reaching out with heartfelt gratitude and a sense of purpose. My name is Maria Petri, and as CEO of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the powerful impact your generosity has on our hospital and our community.

Because of your kindness, we’ve been able to acquire essential hospital equipment like operating tables, CT injectors, and imaging machines - each one is a gift that brings better care and more hope to our patients here in Clarington. I am so proud to be a part of this community, where so many people step forward to support their local hospital. As the year comes to a close, we invite you to join us in strengthening our hospital, so it can continue to be a beacon of care for everyone in our community.

This holiday season we face a pressing challenge: To provide our medical teams with the most advanced equipment available.

This is why the We Care, We Can Campaign is more important than ever. With your support, we can overcome these challenges and ensure that every person receives the best possible care.

This year, we have an urgent need for new equipment, including an advanced X-ray machine and an echocardiac ultrasound system. These tools will help our health-care practitioners provide faster, more accurate diagnoses, making a world of difference for patients. With these updates, we can ensure our families and friends don’t need to travel far for critical care; they can find the healing they need right here at home.

These are not just pieces of equipment; they are lifelines for people like John, Anna, and Evelyn:

  • John, a long-time resident, who discovered early signs of heart disease through a timely echocardiac ultrasound, giving him a chance to make life-saving changes.
  • Anna, a young mother of two, who found relief when an X-ray ruled out anything serious, allowing her to return home to her family with peace of mind.
  • Evelyn, a beloved grandmother, whose clear echocardiac ultrasound results gave her the confidence to embrace life fully with her grandchildren.

Stories like theirs are only possible because of compassionate donors like you. But our equipment is aging, and they need replacing today. This holiday season, you can help ensure that every patient—whether it’s a neighbor, a friend, or a loved one—receives the very best care, right here at home.

This is the season of giving, and there is no better gift than the gift of health. Your generous donation of $50, $100, or any amount that feels meaningful to you will bring the gift of care to countless lives. Imagine the impact of your kindness: better diagnoses, faster treatment, and the peace of knowing your hospital is ready when it’s needed most.

Thank you for being part of a community that cares deeply for one another. Together, we can make Bowmanville Hospital a place where hope shines brightly, not just during the holidays, but every day of the year.

With heartfelt thanks and warmest wishes for the season,

Maria Petri
