BOWMANVILLE HOSPITAL FOUNDATION UNVEILS CAMPAIGN CABINET & LOGO AND CELEBRATES A $5-MILLION GIFT FROM MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON

BOWMANVILLE, Wednesday, April 17, 2019 – The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation is off to a strong start as awareness and excitement continue to build for the Redevelopment and Expansion of Bowmanville Hospital. On Wednesday, April 17, 2019, the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation hosted a special Campaign Presentation & Celebration at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex where they announced a new Campaign Cabinet, Campaign Logo and an incredible $5-million gift from the Municipality of Clarington.

In February of this year, the Municipality of Clarington Council took steps to approve the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation’s municipal ask of $5-million to the redevelopment and expansion of Bowmanville Hospital. This marks the largest gift to be received by the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. The support of the Municipality is a major milestone for the Foundation as it continues to raise funds for the largest campaign in its history.

“Clarington Council was delighted to invest in local health care,” said Mayor Adrian Foster, Municipality of Clarington. “Our families, friends and loved ones rely on Bowmanville Hospital and the redevelopment and expansion project will ensure access to the care they need right here in Clarington, which is incredibly important to the future of our community.”

The Foundation has been busy recruiting a Campaign Cabinet; a group of strong community leaders who will play an important role in supporting the Foundation’s efforts to solicit and secure meaningful gifts for the project. The Campaign Cabinet is comprised of volunteer representatives from all sectors of the Clarington community. Led by Chair, Kirk Kemp, President, Algoma Orchards Ltd., these enthusiastic volunteers will provide a vital link between the Hospital and community. This is just the start, as Campaign Cabinet is expected to recruit a few more members.

Campaign Cabinet Members include:

• Kirk Kemp, Cabinet Chair
• Lawson Gay
• Bob Shickendanz
• Steve DeBoer
• Angel Van Leeuwen
• Todd March

“When an opportunity to further support the redevelopment of Bowmanville Hospital was presented, I was thrilled to take on the role as Campaign Chair,” said Kirk Kemp. “I applaud these men and women for their commitment to our Hospital and our community. Each one of them will help transform the local health care and continue to build momentum for this important campaign in our community. I am looking forward to achieving great things for Bowmanville Hospital.”

The Foundation also unveiled the new Campaign Brand and Logo: We Care, We Can – Investing in Our Health Care at the celebration event. This logo will live throughout the course of the campaign, as they work collaboratively with the Cabinet to meet financial goals and help Lakeridge Health deliver a fully redeveloped and expanded health care facility for the Clarington community.

“This incredible gift provided by the Municipality of Clarington comes at a pivotal time for health care in Clarington and across Durham Region,” said Matthew Anderson, President & CEO, Lakeridge Health. “We are extremely grateful for the Municipality’s support as we work to modernize facilities and enhance health care services to ensure people living in our community have better access to care close to home.”

“The support exemplified by the Municipality of Clarington is monumental to the Foundation and to Bowmanville Hospital,” said Frank Cerisano, Chief Executive Officer, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. “Their commitment to our Hospital and community is demonstrated once again through their decision to make this very generous gift to support the expansion project. We are extremely grateful for Mayor Foster and Council’s continued support.”
