Newcastle Lions Club Gives $8,000 to Bowmanville Hospital Eye Centre & "Buy A Bed" Fundraiser

BOWMANVILLE, – Friday, May 10, 2019 – On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, members of the Newcastle Lions Club presented Frank Cerisano, Chief Executive Officer, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation with a cheque for $8,000. The funds will be directed to the “Buy A Bed” Fundraiser and the Eye Centre at Bowmanville Hospital.

“Bowmanville Hospital is a very important part of our community and when the opportunity arose to support these great initiatives, it was a unanimous decision that we were happy to take part in,” said Debra McGaffin, President, Newcastle Lions Club. “We are proud to support a project that will offer the community peace of mind knowing that a state-of-the art hospital is just around the corner to support the needs of our growing and aging population.”

The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation has been one of the Newcastle Lions Club’s charities of choice for many years. The members have supported several important initiatives including the “Buy A Bed”, “Buy A Pump” and “Back the Cat” fundraisers, all of which have been instrumental in strengthening the quality of care Bowmanville Hospital provides to the community. One of the Club’s primary purposes is to support sight-related activities, and for that reason have continuously donated, for the last 12 years, to the Regional Eye Centre at Bowmanville Hospital.

Founded in 1947, the Newcastle Lions Club will celebrate an incredible 72 years of serving the community this month. From their involvement in the Santa Claus Parade and Fall Festival to Foodbank Drives and the Spring Road Clean-up, it is clear that the Club is dedicated to their community and its well-being.

“We are extremely grateful for this gift,” said Mr. Cerisano, Chief Executive Officer, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. “The support that our community’s service clubs demonstrate to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation continues to astonish us. Thanks to the Newcastle Lions Club for sharing in our important fundraising initiatives and for working together with us to build a healthier Clarington for all.”

The Newcastle Lions Club welcomes new members who want to contribute their time and effort to better support our community. For more information on how you can become a member of Newcastle Lions Club, please contact Lions President Debra McGaffin at 647-773-1110.
