Edmond & Sylvia Vanhaverbeke Pledge $500,000 to Bowmanville Hospital Redevelopment Project

BOWMANVILLE, Wednesday, June 26, 2019 – The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation’s Annual General Meeting finished with a special leadership gift announcement. Chris Kooy, Chair, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, was pleased to announce a $500,000 pledge from Edmond and Sylvia Vanhaverbeke and The Edmond & Sylvia Vanhaverbeke Foundation. This gift will be directed to the We Care, We Can Campaign in support of the redevelopment and expansion of Bowmanville Hospital.

Edmond and Sylvia Vanhaverbeke have been instrumental ambassadors for the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation and the Clarington community for many years. Since 1993, they have donated to Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, both personally and through The Edmond & Sylvia Vanhaverbeke Foundation. For the 2016-17 fiscal year, Ed served as a valuable member of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors.

“Sylvia and I are proud to support the We Care, We Can Campaign,” said Mr. Vanhaverbeke. “For us, Bowmanville Hospital is one of our most important institutions in Clarington and it is vital to support it in this way so that generations, present and future, can have access to the best local health care possible.”

The Vanhaverbeke family has generously supported many of the Foundation’s initiatives, including the “Buy A Pump/Bed” fundraisers, “Back the Cat” Campaign and Eye Centre, to name a few. In addition to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, Ed and Sylvia have supported Durham Hospice, UOIT and Durham College Foundations, CAMH, Ontario Philharmonic and more.

“We are thankful for the generosity of Ed and Sylvia and grateful for their support and the impact their gifts continue to make on the delivery of care at Bowmanville Hospital,” said Mrs. Kooy. “Their unwavering support truly exemplifies their philanthropic spirit and dedication to our community. This commitment to our cause helps us take one step closer to an improved patient care experience for Clarington.”

“Ed and Sylvia’s support and dedication is truly inspiring,” said Mr. Frank Cerisano, CEO, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. “Their incredible dedication and commitment to the Hospital and community is very apparent. We are privileged to be Ed and Sylvia’s charity of choice and to receive this remarkable gift, a gift that will significantly help strengthen the We Care, We Can Campaign and continue to pave the way for others to follow.”
