The Impact of Giving: Bowmanville Hospital Foundation’s 2024/2025 AGM
Bowmanville, ON – June 26, 2025– The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation brought together community members, volunteers, and local leaders for its Annual General Meeting, celebrating the generosity and shared commitment shaping the future of healthcare in Clarington. Centered on this year’s theme, We Care, We Can: The Impact of Giving, the event highlighted the remarkable progress and growing momentum behind the campaign to redevelop and expand Bowmanville Hospital.
The Foundation proudly announced that it raised $4.89 million through fundraising and investments during the 2024/2025 fiscal year – a testament to what’s possible when a community comes together with purpose. “The 2024/2025 fiscal year was the most successful in the Foundation’s history -not only in revenue, but in the depth of connection and shared commitment we felt across Clarington,” said Maria Petri, CEO of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation.
Among the meaningful stories shared were those of the Rice family, who generously donated the land where part of the redeveloped hospital will be built, and the Cowan family, whose lasting generosity continues to support exceptional care in Clarington.
“Weʼre grounded in purpose, energized for whatʼs next, and deeply grateful for the generosity that brought us here,ˮ added Laura Sciore, Chair of the Board of Directors. “The Foundationʼs strength is rooted in its people, our donors, team, hospital partners, and community. We Care, We Can, and with your continued support, We Will.ˮ
The Foundation also welcomed four new board members: Pankaj Panchal, Chris Kooy, Deanna Cregg, and Lindsay Hamilton. With deep roots in the community and diverse professional experience, they bring valuable insight and leadership to support the Foundationʼs mission.
The event featured remarks from the Honourable MPP Todd McCarthyʼs Office, Mayor Adrian Foster, the Lakeridge Health Executive Leadership team, and special guest Danielle Michaud, Sportsnet Host and healthcare advocate who shared her personal health journey and the vital role local healthcare played in her recovery.

About the Bowmanville Hospital Redevelopment Project
As one of the fastest growing regions in Ontario, the population of Durham Region is expected to double by 2041. To meet the increasing health care needs of our community, Bowmanville Hospital is set to undergo a transformative redevelopment and expansion – nearly doubling its current size.
The reimagined Bowmanville Hospital will usher in a new era of health care delivery in Durham Region, with a modern, bright, patient-centred design. All patient rooms will be private, supporting enhanced comfort, privacy, and infection control. The facility will also include specialized bariatric rooms with wider doorways, reinforced infrastructure, and dedicated equipment to ensure the mobility, safety, and dignity of bariatric patients.
New ambulatory care clinics and a Haemodialysis Centre will establish a centralized health care “hub,” improving access to essential outpatient services. A rooftop helipad will enable rapid transport of critically ill or injured patients, ensuring timely access to emergency care. The hospital will also offer Level 3 Critical Care capacity – the highest level of hospital care – featuring advanced life-sustaining technology and highly skilled health care teams trained to manage complex and urgent medical conditions.
Together, these advancements represent a bold and necessary step forward in delivering high-quality, accessible care to Clarington and the surrounding communities for generations to come.
