Holidays Saved by an X-Ray – And a Call for support
Dear Community Member,
On an icy December weekend, Clarington resident Emily slipped on her front steps. She arrived at Bowmanville Hospital worried she’d broken her arm - and even more worried she might miss the holidays with her family. Our technologist gently positioned her arm for an X-ray and said what I hear so often from our hospital teams: “We’ll take good care of you.”
Minutes later, the image told the story - a clean fracture. The cast went on, pain control started, and Emily was home that afternoon with a clear plan to heal. That’s the power of an X-ray done right: it protects recovery, independence, and peace of mind.
As CEO of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, I celebrate moments like Emily’s every day. But I also see the pressures behind them. Our general X-ray unit is more than 20 years old making it increasingly unreliable, costly to maintain, and at risk of failure. Last year alone, technologists performed over 18,900 X-rays, a 22% increase since 2023. To keep up with our growing community, a second, state-of-the-art X-ray unit is essential.
Thanks to donors like you, we’ve already brought a new Echocardiac Ultrasound to Bowmanville Hospital, now helping thousands of patients receive faster, more accurate care. This holiday season, we can take the next step together.
Baker Tilly KDN LLP has generously committed $25,000 in matching funds. When you give by December 31, your impact is doubled bringing this vital X-ray unit to our community even faster.
Every gift helps us build a healthier tomorrow for our community.
With heartfelt thanks and warm holiday wishes,
Maria Petri
CEO, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation
