Community Generosity Delivers New X-ray Equipment for Bowmanville Hospital
Bowmanville, ON – February, 24, 2026 – For 50 years, the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation has transformed community generosity into life-saving care. This milestone anniversary is now marked by a powerful example of that impact: the installation of a new, state-of-the-art X-ray unit at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville Hospital, made possible entirely through donor support.

The new equipment replaces aging technology at a time when demand for diagnostic imaging continues to grow in Durham Region. Patients and families across Clarington are already benefiting from faster, clearer imaging without leaving the community they know and trust, while clinicians are able to make quicker, more confident decisions that support timely care.
Funding for the X-ray unit was achieved over two years through the mobilization of a dedicated Clarington community, including major gifts, fundraising events such as the Foundation’s 2025 Gala, Racing for Health, and direct mail campaigns. Most recently, a record-setting Holiday X-ray campaign helped carry the effort over the finish line, thanks to widespread community participation.
“We are absolutely thrilled with our new Carestream X-ray rooms,” said Jennifer, Charge Technologist, Bowmanville Hospital. “This incredible upgrade allows us to capture sharper, clearer images with a much lower radiation dose. The built-in camera improves patient safety, and the automated features reduce physical strain on staff. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible.”
Through the We Care, We Can campaign, the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation funds 100 per cent of the hospital’s equipment needs, ensuring teams have the tools required to provide safe, high-quality care. As momentum builds toward a new, purpose-built Bowmanville Hospital, this X-ray unit will eventually move to the new facility and serve as a cornerstone of the expanded Diagnostic Imaging Centre. With the redeveloped hospital set to double in size, investing in modern equipment is essential to meeting the growing needs of patients and staff.
Community partners played an important role in bringing this new equipment to life. As the Holiday X-Ray campaign’s lead matching partner, Baker Tilly KDN LLP helped amplify the message, inspire donors, and contributed to record participation, underscoring the power of collaboration.
“At Baker Tilly KDN, we’re proud to support the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation and the vital care they provide every day. Promoting the health and well-being of our community is a responsibility we hold close, and this partnership is a meaningful way for us to make a lasting impact,” Jeff Taylor, Managing Partner, Baker Tilly KDN LLP.
This installation is more than an upgrade in technology – it is a clear example of what’s possible when a community comes together to shape the future of care. As planning continues for the redeveloped Bowmanville Hospital, the community plays a critical role in ensuring the tools, technology, and spaces are in place when the doors of the new facility open.
“As we celebrate our 50th year, this new X-ray unit reflects the strength of our community and a shared commitment to care,” said Maria Petri, Chief Executive Officer of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. “We are grateful to the residents, businesses, and partners who continue to demonstrate leadership in the shared responsibility of shaping local health care – not just for today, but for generations to come.”
