Nov. 3, 2023 – Vanhaverbeke Family Doubles Pledge to $1 Million at Hospital Gala

CLARINGTON, ONT. – The Carnival Extravaganza gala was nothing short of remarkable, as the Vanhaverbeke Family boosted the foundation’s We Care, We Can campaign by pledging $1 million to the hospital redevelopment and expansion.

The event took place on Friday, November 3rd, at Deer Creek Golf Club and had much to celebrate, as close to 400 guests took in the sights, sounds and vibe of a Carnival themed Mardi Gras in the beautiful community of Clarington.

Many key dignitaries, businesses, hospital staff and community minded enthusiasts enjoyed carnival games, food, and lively music in support of the hospital’s redevelopment; and the purchase of a C-Arm for the hospital’s diagnostic image area. Lakeridge Health plans to break ground for the redevelopment and expansion in Fall of 2025, with doors opening in the Spring of 2028. The hospital plans to increase capacity to 178 beds, centralized ambulatory clinic, Nephrology with 9 dialysis stations,
conference space, all private accommodations, patient experience and workplace of
choice and enhanced regional eye centre.

“We are grateful for the incredible support we received at this year’s gala,” said Frank Cerisano, Chief Executive Officer of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. “Events like the Carnival Extravaganza bring needed awareness and funds to the importance of the redevelopment and equipment needs of our hospital. The ground breaking is around the corner, and we need everyone’s help to meet the $110 million community share!”

The evening was filled with memorable moments, from the tearful and emotional presentation of this year’s Governor Circle award to Don Rickard and his late wife Gail. To the high energy and delightful announcement of the Vanhaverbeke Family’s $1 million pledge to the We Care, We Can campaign. “Our donation to the hospital is more than simply financial. It represents an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health of our community. Knowing our contribution can help provide vital care, advanced treatments, and bring us closer to finally redeveloping the hospital,” says Edmond and Sylvia Vanhaverbeke.

The Carnival extravaganza was made successful due to the generous support of the foundation’s donors, volunteers, and sponsors. Special recognition to our Presenting Sponsors Kemp Travel Group, Cowan Buick GM Limited and Kaitlin Corporation for their continued support of the hospital.

“We took the time to eat, drink and enjoy each others company at this year’s event,” says Frank Cerisano. “However, the hard work is still in front of us. As a community we must rally behind our hospital, and finally end a close to 40 year journey, by bringing the expansion to reality.”
