ABOUT THE EVENT

Steps for Care presented by Ontario Power Generation is a family-friendly 5K walk and celebration along the Darlington Waterfront Trail on September 27 in support of local health care.

For 50 years, the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation has transformed community generosity into life-saving care close to home. Today, that legacy stands at a defining moment.

The We Care, We Can campaign is the largest in our Foundation’s history, raising 100% of equipment needs and the community’s share of construction costs for this once-in-a-generation redevelopment of Bowmanville Hospital. This is our opportunity to shape the future of health care in Clarington and Durham Region for decades to come.

As the easternmost hospital of Lakeridge Health, Bowmanville Hospital plays a vital role within one of Ontario’s most comprehensive health systems serving Durham Region. For more than a century, it has been a cornerstone of care in Clarington, but its facilities were not built to support today’s growing scale, complexity, and advancing medical technology.

With Durham Region’s population expected to double by 2041, demand for care is rising faster than the hospital’s current infrastructure can sustain. The redevelopment will double capacity, modernize care environments, and expand essential services, dramatically improving patient experience, clinical flow, and access to care.

As plans move forward, community support through the We Care, We Can campaign is more important than ever. Steps for Care gives residents, families, and local businesses a meaningful way to be part of what comes next.
