DEC. 21, 2023 – CLARINGTON REINFORCES COMMITMENT TO LAKERIDGE HEALTH BOWMANVILLE HOSPITAL WITH $7.5 MILLION DONATION

CLARINGTON, ONT. – The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation is honoured to announce that the Municipality of Clarington is providing an additional $2.5 million in support of the Lakeridge Health Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment and expansion project. This investment brings Clarington’s total pledge to $7.5 million.

This monumental contribution represents Clarington’s dedication to enhancing healthcare facilities within the community. As Clarington grows and prospers, the need for the hospital redevelopment and expansion becomes undeniable, addressing a long overdue need for healthcare infrastructure that aligns with the demands of a dynamic community.

The urgency centred around the raise of the community share of $110 million is evident. Now is the time for everyone to step up in any capacity to ensure the rapid progression of the We Care, We Can fundraising campaign.

“The Municipality of Clarington is pleased to strengthen its partnership with the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. We recognize the crucial role this institution plays in the well-being of our community, and our unwavering dedication to foster the hospital expansion and redevelopment stands firm,” stated Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.

The increased commitment of $7.5 million reflects Clarington’s confidence in the mission to ensure the expansion is finally completed. Once completed, the expansion and redevelopment will feature a capacity for 178 new beds to meet the community’s growing needs, new expansion of the state-of-the-art Regional Eye Centre, semi-professional suites, a new emergency department to accommodate the demand, a new Ambulatory Care Centre and a nine-station Hemodialysis Centre. The eagerly anticipated construction phase is scheduled to commence in the Fall of 2025, marking a pivotal milestone in the campaign, with a full opening of the hospital scheduled for the Spring of 2028.

The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the Municipality of Clarington for it’s generous contribution, recognizing the influential role it will play in reshaping healthcare delivery in Clarington and across Durham Region. This transformative donation marks a significant stride towards fostering a healthier and more robust community, demonstrating Clarington’s commitment to the well-being of its residents. The Foundation looks forward to the profound impact this collaboration will have on enhancing healthcare services and ensuring a healthier, brighter future for all.

Clarington’s funding for the Bowmanville Hospital is part of A Plan for Growth: Clarington’s 2024-27 Budget, the Municipality’s plan to provide families and businesses with the opportunities, services and supports they need to make the most of the municipality’s bright future. An expanded and modernized Bowmanville Hospital will help realize that vision.
