Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Pledges $2.5 Million to Bowmanville Hospital Foundation

CLARINGTON, ONT. – November 15, 2024: At the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation’s annual Gala, Mission Possible, held on November 1st, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) announced a $2.5 million donation to the Foundation’s We Care, We Can Campaign. This donation will significantly advance the campaign’s goal of raising the community’s share for the redevelopment and expansion of the hospital.

“Ontario Power Generation has a deep commitment to fostering healthy, thriving communities,” said Steve Gregoris, Chief Nuclear Officer, Ontario Power Generation. “Through our Power for Change Project, which supports this donation, OPG gives back to the communities in which we operate. Our partnership with the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation is an investment in the health and future of Clarington and the surrounding area, to help create a healthcare environment that will serve this region for generations.”

The Mission Possible Gala celebrated local support and raised funds for the hospital’s ambitious expansion project, which includes increasing capacity to 178 beds, adding specialized facilities like a new Nephrology department, and upgrading to all-private patient rooms.

Maria Petri, Chief Executive Officer of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, shared her appreciation for the support shown by OPG and the community at large: “We are deeply grateful to Ontario Power Generation for their outstanding generosity and shared vision for the future of healthcare in Clarington. This incredible $2.5 million donation brings us closer to realizing a state-of-the-art hospital that will meet the needs of our growing community. With continued support, we are turning our dream of expanded and advanced healthcare facilities into a reality.”

The Gala’s success was made possible thanks to the support of the Foundation’s dedicated donors, volunteers, and sponsors. Special recognition goes to Diamond Sponsors: Kemp Travel Group, Cowan Buick GMC Limited, Kaitlin Corporation and Phoenix A.M.D International Inc. for their dedication to Bowmanville Hospital’s future.

About the Bowmanville Hospital Redevelopment Project

As one of the fastest growing regions in Ontario, the Durham Region population is expected to double by 2041. To ensure our integrated, regional system of health can continue to meet the rapidly growing demands of our community, the reimagined Bowmanville Hospital will undergo a significant expansion, nearly doubling its current size.

Once complete, the redeveloped Bowmanville Hospital will usher in a new era of health care delivery in Durham Region with features including new ambulatory care clinics and a Haemodialysis Centre. It will also house a rooftop helipad to enable rapid access to emergency services, and Level 3 Critical Care capacity, the highest level of care provided in hospitals for critically ill or injured patients. The plans also include a new parking garage supporting more convenient access for patients, visitors, staff and volunteers, as well as additional green space to enhance the well-being of everyone in the community.
