Bowmanville, ON – June 25, 2025 – The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation is proud to announce that the Municipality of Clarington has contributed a final $3.75 million, fulfilling its full $7.5 million commitment to support the redevelopment of Lakeridge Health Bowmanville Hospital.

The Foundation’s March 3, 2026 announcement shared the Municipality’s accelerated first $3.75 million installment. Today’s investment completes Clarington’s historic pledge and marks another major milestone in the community effort to bring a modern, redeveloped hospital to Clarington and Durham Region.

This milestone reflects Clarington’s continued leadership in supporting local health care. As Durham Region continues to grow, the redevelopment will help meet increasing demand for care by nearly doubling the size of Bowmanville Hospital and expanding access to modern facilities and services for patients and families.

“Clarington is all in when it comes to the health and well-being of our residents. That’s whywe’re proud to have reached our ultimate goal of donating a historic $7.5 million to the redevelopment of the Bowmanville Hospital. We’ve been eagerly awaiting the hospital’s redevelopment, which will more than double its size. This matters because everyone in Clarington needs and deserves life-saving care close to home. We’re honoured to support the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation and Lakeridge Health as they work to build a state-of-the-art hospital here in our community,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.

The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation welcomed the fulfilled commitment as a strong signal of momentum for the redevelopment and a powerful example of local partnership in action. Through the We Care, We Can campaign, the Foundation continues to lead the fundraising effort for the community’s share of construction costs and 100 per cent of equipment needs for the redeveloped hospital.

“We are deeply grateful to the Municipality of Clarington for its extraordinary leadership and partnership,” said Maria Petri, CEO, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. “This investment sends a clear message that our community believes in the future of local health care and Bowmanville Hospital. It strengthens the momentum behind this once-in-a-generation project and inspires all of us to keep moving forward together.”

The rebuild of the hospital will transform care in Clarington and across Durham Region. Plans for the redeveloped hospital include expanded critical care services, an Ambulatory Care Centre, a Haemodialysis Centre, Level 3 Critical Care capacity, private and bariatric rooms, and a rooftop helipad to support rapid access to emergency services.

Lakeridge Health has also identified key project milestones already underway, including the submission of detailed proposals by shortlisted teams, signaling the close of the Request for Proposals stage, as well as related pre-construction enabling projects, such as the relocation of the historic Lambert House.

“We’re grateful to Mayor Foster and the Municipality of Clarington for their leadership and commitment to the future of health care in our community. As Clarington continues to grow, this investment brings us closer to a redeveloped Bowmanville Hospital that will serve patients and families for generations to come. Today’s news reflects what’s possible when communities come together around a shared vision. Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected health system and advancing Lakeridge Health’s vision of One System. Best Health. for the people of Durham Region,” said Cynthia Davis, President and CEO, Lakeridge Health.

This announcement is both a celebration of fulfilled civic leadership and a reminder that community support remains essential. The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation continues to rally donors, businesses, and partners to help fund the local share of the redevelopment and the equipment that will power care in the new hospital for decades to come.
