The We Care, We Can CAMPAIGN

To improve access and the quality of care in Durham Region, Lakeridge Health’s Bowmanville Hospital is embarking on a landmark and historic redevelopment journey. Ushering in a new era of health care, we are building a brand-new Bowmanville Hospital, purpose-built for the future.

Why Build a redeveloped hospital?

As one of the fastest growing regions in Ontario, the Durham Region population is expected to double by 2041. To ensure our integrated, regional health system can continue to meet the rapidly growing demands of our community, our reimagined Bowmanville Hospital will undergo a significant expansion, nearly doubling its current size.

What will be included?

Once complete, the redeveloped Bowmanville Hospital will usher in a new era of health care delivery in the Durham Region with features including but not limited to:

  • Private and bariatric rooms
  • New ambulatory care clinics
  • A Haemodialysis Centre
  • A rooftop helipad
  • Level 3 Critical Care capacity
When will this project happen?

Constructing an acute care facility is a complex process with multiple stages of planning that can take, on average, 10 years or longer to complete.
We are proud of the progress we have made to date, expect to release the RFP in mid-2025, and finalize selection of a construction partner in 2026. Final design and construction will follow as quickly as possible.

THE PLAN

The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation has been working collaboratively with Lakeridge Health on the Hospital’s Master Plan. Lakeridge Health’s plan for the Bowmanville site will ensure there is enough room for a growing and aging population. Hospital Renderings Subject to Change.
