Honouring Hannu's Legacy

Friends, family, and community members are coming together to honour the life and legacy of Hannu Halminen.

By making a donation in Hannu's honour, you will help fund a vital piece of equipment for the once-in-a-generation rebuild of the Bowmanville Hospital, helping to ensure the new hospital is fully equipped and ready to serve the community when it opens.

Each contribution carries forward Hannu’s vision, ensuring that his commitment to local health care continues to benefit patients and families for many years to come.

A Legacy of Philanthropy

Hannu, 76, was a resident of the Clarington area for nearly 70 years, a devoted husband and father, and co-founder of Halminen Homes, leaving a legacy of nearly 10,000 homes that shaped the community. Driven, focused, and fiercely competitive, he pursued his passions while cherishing family, friends, and community. Hannu’s generosity, insight, and dedication left a lasting impact that will be remembered for generations.

Hannu’s support of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation spans nearly four decades, beginning with his first gift in 1985. Over the years, his generosity has helped strengthen local health care in Clarington.

In 2010, Hannu and his team at Halminen Homes organized a remarkable five-day home build in Courtice, involving over 200 volunteers and tradespeople. The sale of the home directly supported what is now the Level 2 Critical Care Unit at Bowmanville Hospital.

Hannu’s philanthropy made history in 2019 when the Halminen Family Foundation and Lakeside Self Storage made a landmark pledge in support of the Foundation’s We Care, We Can campaign, reflecting Hannu’s commitment to a modern, redeveloped Bowmanville Hospital that can meet the needs of a growing community.

From his earliest gift to these landmark contributions, Hannu was one of the most generous and long-standing donors in the history of the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation.
